[comp.sys.misc] Hard Disk Drives & Controllers

prkeen@nuchat.UUCP (Phillip Keen) (03/21/89)

I presently have 2 40 Megabyte Seagate Hard Disk drives with a
Purstore ARLL controller card which brings me up to 150 megabytes. I
am about to upgrade to UNIX and would like to ad another hard disk drive.
I know that the controller card can only hold 2 hard disk drives, or at
least that's the way most controller cards are. Will I have any problems
adding another controller card. BTW--I'm presently using an IBM AT Clone.

You may have more troubles than you know. If you have the Purstor
which requires a separate floppy controller, you may not be able to run
UNIX at all. I had that one, and it just doesn't look like a standard WD
controller enough to run UNIX.

There is a version with FD on the controller which is claimed to run
UNIX, but I haven't tried it. I'm not sure I have the guts to reformat
my old disks again, they're working okay RLL.
