I have a number of lathe cut 78 rpm discs of original 1940's radio performances of my parents, (Old Gold Quartet, Percy Faith's Coca-Cola Bottling Hour, etc). My brother's and I would love dearly to preserve these recordings, and to copy them onto tape media for casual listening. Does anyone out there have any suggestions for what type of needle/cartridge will do the least damage to these grooves, how best to go about cleaning them, and is there anyone with the means to apply auto-correlation schemes to restore the signal to noise ratio, (or any scheme at all) ??? Thanks in advance for any clues you can offer... ...houxz!wb2!tcb Tom Ballister Bell Telephone Labs Rm WB1D101 Holmdel, N.J. 07733 201-870-7498
