[comp.sys.misc] Nintendo/Atari/etc cartidge games

Hi.

A friend (non-programmer, educational major) and I (programmer, but as of yet,
still a mainframe baby) are trying to plan an education tool that we would
like to reach as wide an audience as possible.

A lot of our decisions are being based on what sort of platform the tool
is based on: e.g. which computer, etc.

One possible option for us is all those dedicated video arcade systems out
there these days. I've read that some cartridge manufacturers produce
games that cary 1.2 Meg of information, complete with battery backups, so
that the cartridge acts like a "virtual disk."

I don't want any information about this technology (it's probably
propietary anyway :-) but I am curious as to how one goes about developing
any software for Nintendo or Atari or Sega game systems. Are cross
compilers involved? Is there a development platform? etc.

Please email any reponses, or directions for further investigation to
roger@caen.engin.umich.edu

THANKS.

Roger Espinosa
