[comp.sys.misc] Psion Organizer information request

astieber@csd4.csd.uwm.edu (Anthony J Stieber) (12/12/89)

I just recently bought a Psion Organizer II CM. It's a handheld
computer with an alphabetic keyboard and a 16x2 display, 8K RAM and
two EPROM/PROM sockets. It was introduced back in 1986 and seems to
have been targeted for the pocket calculator/black book market
although it also has a procedural language. Mine came with a 25,000
word dictionary EPROM. Right now I'm trying to find accessories for
it, or if possible the 32K version (Model XP). If anyone has one of
these machines or knows of anyplace selling them or the accesories, I
would like to hear from you.

When I opened up the machine I found that the EPROM module has a
whole bunch of chips in it besides the EPROM, it's not something that
could just be thrown together. The RAM is surface mounted, and like
everything else not socketed. There do seem to be some empty areas
for perhaps more RAM. The expansion connector for RS-232 (and
probably AC power, the bar code reader and card reader) is a mystery.
If I have too I'll open it up and get out a multimeter.

Psion is a British company and seems to not have any US
distributors still selling their product. I would be grateful if
someone could at least tell me if the campany is still in business and
if there is anyway I could contact them here in the US.

If someone in London could try their phone number I would appreciate it.

There are four models in the Psion Organizer range. CM, XP, LZ and LZ64
The CM and XP have similar capabilities but the XP has 32K of ram instead of 8K
and has the ability to accept 128K datapacks.

The two LZ models have a 64K rom, better/bigger utilities and a four line
screen instead of two. The LZ64 has 64K ram instead of 32K on the LZ

The utilities, in addition to the CM/XP have:

extended filing system, week to view calender, notepad, password
protection, data encryption, world time zones and international
	dialling codes. stopwatch and timer.

Plus all the plug in stuff like RS232, printer, barcode reader, card reader
etc etc...

The Psion brochure is very informative and can be got from:

	Psion Plc,
	Psion House, Harcourt Street,
	London W1H 1DT
	Englad.
	Tel: 01-723-9408	Fax: 01-724-6646
	Telex: 296489 PSION G.

There are also third party companies doing software for the organizer and
two books available from Psion (probably others)
