I recently was given a Zilog System 8000, Model M21 system for home use. However, I am having severe hardware problems, and am looking for guidance. The system is equipped with a 32 Meg 'FINCH' Winchester Drive, an 80 Meg Memorex Winchester Drive,a tape cartridge drive, and 2 Meg of memory. The problem is that both the 32 Meg Drive and the tape drive are not functional. The power up diagnostics report a code not given in the manuals. The EXACT response to power-up and hitting the START Button is a follows: System 8000 Monitor 3.1 Press START to Load System POWER UP DIAGNOSTICS ACTIVE PERIPHERALS WDC ***ERROR #1002 00 00 10 00 SMC TCC ECC COMPLETE SEGMENTED JUMPERS MAXSEG=<1F> The disk drive is spinning, but cannot mainitain a constant speed. It keeps spinning up and down. The tape drive gives no response at all. HELP! Is there anywhere I can get drawings and/or guidance in fixing this thing? So far ZILOG havn't been a lot of help, but it could have been just the people that I have talked to. Needless to say I'm not interested in spending a great deal of money on such an old machine (circa 1982), but it would make a nice toy if I can get something to work on it.
