like BPG at N.Dakota SU, I am also in need of a history lesson. I am doing a project on the history of electronic networks (especially computer ones- naturally). I am looking for two kinds of info/documents: standard histories of electronic nets i.e. organization history & structure(s), and the *social history* of netorks, i.e. what did the folks who laid the groundwork for them envision/have in mind when they wrote the original software & protocols; what did they think they'd be used for & by whom, for what purposes? E.g. Did they think that there would be all these public as well as commercial nets; was access supposed to be general or restricted, etc.? This may be beyond the interests of folks on this list- I apologize in advance to those who think so. On the other hand there are undoubtedly some micro-oreinted folks who know about this, know others who know about this and can refer me on to other more appropriate sources (persons, books, journals). I hope those folks will respond to me directly, & I will in turn correspond with them. I'm willing to summarize responses to the list if there is interest in that.
