We've got an Intergraph workstation connected to 'uunet' and several other sites via uucp. According to the manual pages, entries which would normally be kept in our 'Systems' file are stored in 'Systems.skel' instead. When 'uxmailr' runs, entries from the 'Systems.skel' are merged with information in the Intergraph clearinghouse so mail can be sent between Intergraph machines via XNS and other remote machines via dialup uucp. Everything works fine, but why is a lock file created and not deleted by 'uxmailr'? Ordinarily, the lock file sits around and 'uudemon.admin' reports four times a day (through 'uustat') that a lock file 'LCK..Systems' exists. As a result, uucp's mailbox fills up with messages about the lock file. If the lock is deleted, everything appears to work fine but the next time 'uxmailr' runs the lock re-appears. We can add an entry to crontab to delete the lock after to 'uxmailr' runs, but it would be nice to know if this fix would break anything that depends on the lock.
