Quota, originally marketed under the name DoppleMaker, is a networking utility that works with any AppleTalk compatible networking software to give network administrators the ability to specify the number of users that can have an application open simultaneously. Instead of purchasing one copy of an application for each user on your network, you purchase only the maximum number of copies that will be used at any given time, saving you from the expense of purchasing software which will not be productively used. Using Quota, you can ensure that there is no infringement on a distributor's copyright. Only the number of copies that you have purchased can be launched. Quota maintains a record of the number of copies of each application that are currently open Q when a user quits the application, Quota allows someone else to launch it. Quota uses a Status file to provide information and control over the network. The network administrator can specify how many copies of each application can be launched and can edit this quantity as required. Quota also maintains a record of the total number of times each application has been launched, the number of times a request has been made to launch an application when all copies were in use and the greatest number of copies open at the same time. This information can be invaluable in determining whether software is being used productively. An added benefit of using Quota is that it provides an additional level of copy protection for your applications. Each actual application is hidden from the user's view and a visually identical "Clone" takes its place. A user can copy the Clone, but it is useless on any disk other than the one from which it was copied Q the original application remains safely protected on the file server. Quota is easy to use. Network administrators can monitor or edit an application's status from any network node without disrupting network activity. Quota is not a concurrent application; this means that network spooling or electronic mail is not affected. Although Quota is MultiFinder compatible, the Clones which it creates are not MultiFinder compatible in this version. Quota works with most Macintosh applications; including word processors, graphics applications, spreadsheets, data bases and programming languages. Quota can be used with AppleShare, AlisaShare and Netware networking software, as well as any other AppleTalk compatible network running system 6.02 or newer. Quota's price is based on the number of workstations connected to each file server: - 10-user license: $299.00 - 20-user license: $499.00 - 50-user license: $999.00 Site licenses are also available. We are presently working on a major upgrade and will ship the new version at no charge to all customers who purchase after April 1, 1990.
