i am working on developing instructional software (meaning that it has to be as SIMPLE for the USER as possible and that as much of shenanigans described below as possible has to be INVISIBLE to the user) anyway, the deal is i will be running 2 applications, both commercial packages not yet chosen ... one is A CAD package that will probably be a DOS only application, the other will be a HYPERTEXT-like package that could run either as a DOS application or under WINDOWS ... i want to allow the user to switch easily and rapidly between them. ideally i'd want the 2nd application (the HYPERTEXT) to be able to receive input from the first to know where to jump to ... the CAD package will (by necessity) have an upper level programming capability that can work with variables and user responses ... it will also be able to shell to DOS easily ... but it will probably take up almost all of the DOS 640K by itself. i am looking for comments about an environment that will allow this. (if there are any comments about CAD or HYPERTEXT preferences i would be interested in them too, but my needs there are more personally dictated) thanks so very much ____________________________________________________________________________ harold goldstein university of the District of Columbia **************************************************************************** email: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- *permanent address: hgoldste@udcvax ... or ... hgoldste%udcvax.bitnet@cornellc.cit.cornell.edu ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- *summer address: (although mail sent above (probably) will be forwarded) mil%"nd45%hrleis.decnet@hqhsd.brooks.af.mil" (regardless of what the return address says)

It sounds like you are looking for a Commodore Amiga with AmigaVision, XCad, and ARexx. All but XCad come packaged with the new Amigas and I believe that there is a shareware CAD package available but I don't know for sure. I'm sure there are fairly good commercial CAD programs available that could talk to AmigaVision. Unless you are for some reason committed to an IBM clone, repost your request on comp.sys.amiga and you can get all the nitty gritty details. -- Darren

You might try CadKey from CadKey Inc. (formerly Micor Control Systems Inc.). Their software has a cad "programing language" called cadl. This "language" allows you to have interactive demos (at least I have seen them before!). I am not an expert in this aspect of CadKey, but it may be what you are after. Just giving my $.02. Good luck. ---- Thomas Pirnat...email tpirnat@wpi.wpi.edu ---- -- | o | Thomas Pirnat (WPI X5505 or email tpirnat @wpi.wpi.edu) | | _ /-+_ | "Logic is a systematic method of coming up with the wrong | | (_) > (_) | conclusion with confidence." -- One of Murphy's Laws | +------------+-------------------------------------------------------------+
