I finally found the source of my mystery squeaks. It's coming from the monitor. This was especially hard to detect since my computer is in a corner and the sound bounces around. I have a packard bell ttl 12" mono monitor so it's inexpensive to replace. However, I want to use it as a second monitor in a dual monitor system. I removed the cover during a squeaking session last night, but I couldn't find the source of the problem :-( When I turn off the monitor with the on/off switch, the sound instantly goes away. When I turn it back on, if I keep the power switch depressed, the monitor makes a continuous high pitched sound. If I pound on the top of the monitor, the sound goes away but comes back in 5 to 10 seconds. I'm relieved to have finally found the source of the problem. Does anyone know what could cause this and what I can do about it (other than buying a new monitor). The monitor works fine otherwise, but these squeaks are hell. -- Jeff Poulin poulin@polar.bowdoin.edu jpoulin@bowdoin.bitnet
