I am trying to get some infor about the difference (pros and cons) between a
386 25 mhz baby motherboard and a full board. The company which is selling me
this system says that it comes with a baby AT case and a baby motherboard but
it also comes with 8 expansion slots. I am not sure whether a baby AT case can
have 8 slots (I may be wrong here!). Also I understand that the baby AT case
has poorer heat dissipation than the full AT case. Any advice/infor would be
most appreciated. Thank you.

The only difference between a full sized and baby AT motherboard is size. I
would be weary of what chip set is on your motherboard. If you have a Suntac,
Chips & Technologies or Intel/Zymos I wouldn't worry. A lot of chip sets can
cut down on the size of a motherboard considerably. My 386SX motherboard is a
baby AT form factor, but the board layout itself is designed to accomodate a
386DX or 386SX. The place for the 80386 and one other chip (I believe it's
the 82335) accomodates both DX and SX versions. Since the DX is bigger than
the SX by almost a factor of three, you can easily see that the motherboard
layout was meant for both DX and SX chips.

As for expansion slots, the baby sized motherboards can easily handle 8
expansion slots, but be weary about the slot for a 32-bit memory board. Some
baby AT 386 motherboards do not have it. If you have support for 16 Mb of
memory on your 386DX/25 then I wouldn't be too concerned about the lack of a
32-bit memory slot.
