We are planning to buy a new graphic terminal to run X11 applications.
We have two networks, one based on TCP/IP and one based on DECNet,
and we run X Window on all the systems connected (Unix and VMS).
The new terminal will be connected to the DECNet network, but we
would like to be able to connect it to the TCP/IP network if needed.
The possible choices, as we see them, are:
1. A X Terminal
2. A 386 running DOS and a X Server (for example PC DecWindows)
3. A 386 running UNIX and a X Server.
Before making a choice we would like to have additional information
about the advantages and drawbacks of each choice. We would like to
know how each solution can be adapted to the two networks and if this
requires the purchase of additional hardware and/or software.
Any comment about the cost/effectivenes of different solutions and
about which hardware and software vendors can supply them will be welcome.
