My project would like to move from a VAX/VMS system onto a VAX running 4.1 bsd UNIX, which is supposed to be installed in our facility during the next few months. Our problem is that we need a graphics package on Unix that will support our graphics devices (Ramtek 9400, Chromatics 7900) via DZ-11 DMA interfaces. The vendor of our VMS graphics package (Precision Visuals' DI 3000) claims that writing DMA device drivers for Unix is difficult... Any info on graphics packages on Unix that support our devices or informed opinion on the difficulty of writing DMA device drivers would be appreciated. Ditto for any examples of said drivers. Thanks in advance. Deb Lewis (trw-unix!djlewis)

What in the name of heaven is a DMA DZ-11 ?????? It is no more or less difficult a priori to write device drivers for >>DMA<< devices under Unix than it is device drivers for acorn squashes, but should my unsubtle irony miss the mark entirely, can anyone tell me exactly what the original article was about?
