%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Announcement of 32K Software Archiving Sites and Call for Software Submittals %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Everyone interested in the National 32000 series of microprocessors will benefit from the sharing of software. Amid a variety of 32K family hardware activities, software is the glue that binds us all together! This is a general call to one and all to submit your 32K source code to one of the 32K software archive sites. Please send your 32K assembly language code, your C language code, etc. The only requirement is that it be generally related to the 32K family in some way. Obvious Examples: source code for 32K language compilers, assemblers, linkers and debuggers written in any language. Also, anything written in 32K assembly language. Other Examples: operating system code, such as XINU, MINIX, etc. that has been adapted or ported to the 32K family. And of course, if in doubt, send it in! 32K Software Submittal Guidelines 10 DEC 88 --------------------------------- --------- These guidelines will be updated to allow more submittal options as the archive sites "come up to speed." For now, follow these simple procedures. Any special instructions or options unique to a particular archive site will be included below, with the site address. Submit software to *one* of the three 32K software archive sites. Software submissions can be sent via email as "shar'd" files where any single message is a size less than 64K bytes. Files can be compressed with Unix compress and then uuencoded as they must go through email (successfully). Whatever your packaging method (compress, uuencode, shar, etc) make sure you include *first* in a header or separate initial file a complete description of your packaging along with unpackaging instructions! The software submitter must identify himself/herself and provide a good return email path in case of questions or problems. Identify the software and the software author including email address or other means to communicate with the author. Of course, everything is simpler when the submitter is the author! The software must contain an author's statement either placing it into the public domain or a copyright notice which clearly identifies the terms of distribution and use. The intent of the archives is to share, so at a minimum the software must be freely distributable to anyone for private use. Be as organized as you can. Readme files, manifests, documentation, etc. are always a great help! For now these are source code archives, so no binaries, please! 32K Software Archive Sites 10 DEC 88 -------------------------- --------- ++++++++++++++++++++ 1. site: beowulf.uucp contact: Bob Bownes (518) 482-8798 **** PLEASE SUBMIT TO THIS SITE FOR NOW! **** SEND SOFTWARE TO: ---------------- bownesrm@beowulf.uucp {leah.albany.edu, steinmetz, devon}!beowulf!bownesrm steinmetz!beowulf!bownesrm@uunet.uu.net rutgers!brspyrl.brs.com!beowulf!bownesrm --- Submit software via email or anonymous uucp. anonymous uucp submittal information: L.sys entry: beowulf Any ACU 2400 15184829228 in:-BREAK-in:-BREAK-in:-BREAK-in:-\n-in: uucp Available 24 hours at 2400/1200/300 baud. There will be some adjustment of submittal and retrieval procedures while each archive site settles into operation. All changes and instructions will be posted. Some additional archive site information will be provided. Right now the emphasis is on getting an initial injection of contributed software! Come on, don't be bashful, help the cause and contribute your software today! Watch this newsgroup for the "grand opening" of 32K software retrieval! Regards, Bob Bownes, Andrew Hay, Dave Rand, Steven Ward PS - I'd like to make a personal and public acknowledgement of assistance and enthusiastic cooperation given to me by 32K support staffers at National Semiconductor in my 32K hardware project endeavors - thanks!
