We would like a C-compiler which executes within a SunOS4.0 environment on a 68000 chip but generates NS32000 instructions. We are using the SUN as our host machine and downloading the executable code to a multiprocessor system comprised of DB16000 boards. Does anyone out there in netland have any information that could point us in the right direction. Andrew J. Mazeikis Information Technology Research Centre Queen's University at Kingston

We would like a C-compiler which executes within a SunOS4.0 environment on a 68000 chip but generates NS32000 instructions. Does anyone out there in netland have any information that could point us in the right direction. Two answers. One is the Amsterdam Compiler Kit, in the US it's handled by Unipress, I believe. Allows you to build compilers for most anything, and the 32XXX family is one of the provided models. Two is the GNU C compiler, which supports the 32XXX family. Bruce Culbertson at HP Labs has worked on the compiler a lot for the 32016 he has at home. He can be reached as culberts@hplabs.hpl.hp.com, and would probably be willing to get you some bits. Bdale

National's own "GNX optimizing C compiler" is now available as a cross compiler on SUN workstatation. It is part of a full line of cross-support products for the Series 32000 (including assembler, linker, dbx-compatible full-screen source debugger, other compilers for F77, Pascal and Modula2, ISEs, and various development systems.
