[comp.sys.nsc.32k] 4.4 BSD

athos@eyrie.oz.au (07/16/90)

4.4 BSD was discussed here a while ago.........

Recently announced in comp.bugs.4bsd.ucb-fixes was the release of 4.3BSD-Reno,
which is a pre-release version of much of 4.4 BSD.

A 4.3BSD license is still required (and thus an AT&T license). The posting
in comp.bugs.4bsd.ucb-fixes says that they hope to release the AT&T-free code
at a later date, but they say they will not as yet put a date on that.

So, 4.4 BSD looks very nice, but at the moment to get the whole thing you need
a 4.3BSD license. Not very useful for most of the PC532'ers, unless someone
out there has such a license along with binary redistribution rights...

Go read the posting, it's got a lot of detail about the new OS, with OSI
networking and other goodies. If you can't get to the newsgroup, give a yell
here and someone will mail it to you (you'd be better off asking a local rather
than me, but I can mail you a copy from Australia if you really want :-).
