I'm actually working on the floppy controller; definitely settled on 32CG160, DP8490, DP8473, 2681 DUART, 8255 parallel port, some SRAM and EPROM and whatever is needed to glue it together (including probably one GAL for address decoding). Price is looking a lot like $150-200, without a custom PCB (just build it on a generic XT protoboard). I really hope to have the design done by mid January and maybe have a prototype in February. Now, about this bridge you want to buy... :-) I have also been thinking about a keyboard and crt interface; definitely something low end (monochrome). Would it be at all valuable to have a board that essentially did VT100 emulation but also handled windows all by itself? This would take a lot less software than porting X and could probably be done by a bozo, like me. :-) This would be at least a little nicer than a dumb terminal, and also give me something to do with the hole in my case for a keyboard. :-) -- Jerry Callen jcallen@encore.com
