[comp.sys.nsc.32k] How do you make Minix recognize 8MB of memory?

sverre@lars.Seri.GOV (Sverre Froyen) (01/04/91)

In my continuing effort to compile gcc-1.38 cleanly I added an extra
4MB of memory (for a total of 8MB). Using the monitor I can read (dump)
and write (fill) all 8MB (and yes, I did check it was not wrapping at 4MB).
However, Minix apparently refuses to recognize more than 4MB, as reported
at boot time and by ps. I even tried to bypass ram_size by adding 1MB
(256 pages) to whatever ram_size returns but that caused minix to hang
right after it prints out the memory sizes.

Could this be a hardware problems, i.e., does the monitor access the memory
differently from Minix, e.g., skips parity checks?
