[comp.sys.nsc.32k] Oh my god, is that thing _alive_?

news@daver.bungi.com (02/10/91)

Well, it happened at about 12:30pm on the 10th of Feb. I forgot
to take off the anti-static foam that I'd stuck on the back to
make myself feel better when I was handling it with the chips in,
so it didnt work terribly well first hit (nothing broken tho -
that stuff has a fairly high resistance thankfully) but once that
little hurdle got removed, it gunned up beautifully. I've had a
few hangs already, but I'm presently attributing that to the
fact that the ROM revision is DANG old.

Thanks of course to George and Dave, and to Steve for the parts
he shipped out to me (us). Now all I need is a case and a HD to
put Minix on.

Just as a small further note, I'm finding that the initial power-up
after a long period of being turned off sometimes doesn't result in
any activity (LED's, but no prompt), so I'm thinking of increasing
C47 to about 47uf to try and fix this. Anyone feel like suggesting
that a) I've picked the wrong cap or b) this is a dang fool thing
to do anyway?

Congratulations. But, does the board work if you then assert RESET? If the
LEDs light up, that means that the initialization software has programmed
the AIC6250 (which is where the LEDs are hooked up to). Seems unlikely that
the board resets correctly enough for that to happen but the prompt doesn't
appear...

Has anyone else out there had problems with power on reset?

regards,
