In reply to the request on info on the TIPC Business Pro swap, here is a reprint of the article that was run in the June issue of the TImes, the newsletter of the Santa Clara Valley TIPC Users Group Edouard Lagache lagache@violet.berkeley.edu - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The sun has set, TI discontinues production of the Pro (condensed from Jim Horn's announcement on Compuserve) Abstract: As announced at the TIMIX convention at Orlando, Texas Instruments has stopped production of the TIPRO and is offering a swap to current owners. THUMP! This time when the other shoe dropped, it made barely a blip on the radar screen of life. The call came a few minutes ago from TIMIX. Pre release copies of TI Computing Magazine report that TI is "dropping" the TI PRO, according to Bill Whitmore, president of TI Professionals User Group of Washington DC. The bulk of the announcement printed in TI Computing addressed a turn-in program which TI will be supporting for an undisclosed period of time. Any TI PRO can be swapped for a Business Professional, in either an TI/AT or IBM AT(alone) configuration. While no difference is made in the machine being turned in, the following costs apply for various machines being provided by TI: CONFIGURATION TI/AT AT(ALONE) RETAIL-TI/AT(ALONE) Mono $3190 $2795 $5930(5435) Color 3490 3095 6275(5780) Mono w/20 Meg 3890 3495 6980(6485) Color w/20 Meg 4190 3795 7325(6830) The Business Pro will contain 512K ram, one 1.2 Meg floppy, DOS 3.2, and in TI/AT AT alone models, as specified. As the airlines say, some restrictions apply. For further information call or write Texas Instruments, 24510 Highway 290, Attn: TIPC Upgrade, Cypress, Texas 77429 or call 800 847-2787. <sigh> Jim (Editors note: While TI may be no longer producing the Pro, we are not exactly orphans. TI is required by lw to support the machine for at least 5 years.)
