[comp.sys.ti] Sources for TI mdse & info

dave@muddcs.Claremont.EDU (Dave Stuit) (08/19/88)

This started as a response to a mail inquiry I got about schematics and
peripherals. I thought some of the info might be useful to others in
net.land, so I'm also posting it...

TI published a "TI-99/4A Console and Peripheral Expansion Syustem Technical
Data" manual years ago; it is still available from Tenex, probably Tex-Comp,
and probably direct from TI. The Tenex catalog (see below) also lists a
"Hardware Manual for the TI-99/4A" (19.95) and Sams' "Computerfacts"
TI-99/4A tech service manual (17.95).

As Paula Ferris mentioned in message <3311@crash.cts.com>, TI is still
willing to supply info. I suggest you call TI to see if you can still get
schematics (perhaps the aforementioned Technical Data Manual) from them.
Then check the Tenex and Tex-Comp catalogs. Also, try to find a local TI
users' group! Many are still around. (If you can't find one near you, send
me mail with your location and I'll try to find some references.)

Here's info on the two big TI mail-order houses still in business. They
carry most peripherals, commercial software, and books.

Tenex
P.O. Box 6578
South Bend, IN 46660
(800) 348-2778
They used to send out catalogs free if you called and asked for one, but
their latest ad in MicroPendium says you get a free dust cover and catalog
("The Everything Book") for a $2.95 shipping charge. I've ordered a few
things with no problem.

Tex-Comp
P.O. Box 33084
Granada Hills, CA 91344
(818) 366-6631
Tex-Comp's catalog is $2, which gets you a $5 coupon good on a $50 (I think)
order. I've bought a lot of junk (most of my peripherals) from their
warehouse outlet in Northridge.

Also, take a look at MicroPendium, the monthly TI magazine. $20 for 12
issues. P.O. Box 1343, Round Rock, TX 78680. (512) 255-1512. Great for
keeping up to date, especially if you can't get to UG meetings. If only I
had more time to read everything and try it all out....
