[comp.sys.ti] Charter available??

dave@compnect.UUCP (Dave Ratcliffe) (06/17/90)

I'm looking to see if there is ANYONE out there who can lay hands on a
charter for this group or an old FAQ file pertaining to c.s.t.

The reason I'm asking is that there appears to be SOME traffic on here,
but most of what I'm seeing deals with the TI/99 and Geneve and
associated peripherals. I want to find out just what this group was
designated for at creation. Specific questions I'd like answers to:

1) Was it for the TI-Pro -type machines (most likely)
2) Was (is?) there any restriction for moving binaries through this
group (there is ACTIVE c programming in existance for the Geneve and
   TI-99 platforms).
3) Is there more traffic out there than is making it to my system here
   (67 articles since Aug. 89)?

I'd like to see a bit more activity here so if anyone has answers,
kindly ship 'em to me at one of the addresses listed below in .sig-land.
I wouldn't even be adverse to setting up some kind of monthly posting of
charter (if indeed one exists) and FAQ's (providing of course that some
are asked :-) ).

One word of warning, my interest is specifically in the TI-99 and Geneve
systems. The only time I've ever seen a Pro in operation was on
_DALLAS_. :-)

I have been using TELCO in VT100 emulation mode to reading and editing news. I
am at work now, using PROCOMM so I don't remember which VT100 mode I have it
set for. So far I have had no incompatibilities crop up between TELCO and
usenet. I am running TELCO on a Geneve 9640 using the EXEC program to run it
from the MDOS command line. Are you using a 9640 or 99/4A? It seems to me
certain key strokes are a problem on the /4A. They can be done, but require
some effort. There is a table in the manual somewhere.

Chuck, I'm using 2.3 with vt52 under uPort 386 Unix. For reading news I
use vnews (from the 2.11 BNEWS distribution) and my global editor is
MicroEMACS 3.9. Running Telco on a Geneve 9640 and use all of this to
maintain this system from remote (including writing/compiling software,
maintaining BBS userfiles, up/downloading files, etc...). So far, I have
not found ANYTHING I couldn't do except run vi (small loss :-)) Don't
know what to tell you. I found some problems with the vt100 emulation
but Charles told me in D.C. last year that it was an admittedly
incomplete emulator.

Looks like your news mailer hiccupped :-)

I'm using a /4A. I've tried all emulation modes for which my site has termcap
entries.

That is the point I'm trying to make. I also tried to use TELCO on an IBM
mainframe running VM with no success; Fastterm works almost flawlessly for
both of these applications (except for lines longer than 80 chars.).

Hmmmmm.. Don't know what to tell you then. Both Dave Hultberg and I are
running Geneve's with Telco here with the only difference being inb how
we load it (He uses EXEC and I run out of GPL mode) and that he's using
vt100 where I use vt52 because of certain advantages with vnews and ELM.
I understand what you are saying about vi and can only suggest you write
a note to Charles and ask him about how he is treating the escape
sequences in his code. Since _PRESS_ now appears to be dead (or severely
ill) he might have time to look into it. I learned to work around the
problem by using a serial switcher and turning around to the PC behind
me running TELIX. It handles the sequences fine.

Sorry Chuck... wish I could help you more.
