Scott: One person who knows how the memory upgrades work for both the XL and the 800 is David Young, owner of CDY Consulting, Inc. The Newell board and the 130XE both use $D301 to control bank switching. This is the PIA which controls Joystick ports 3 and 4 on the 800, so I don't think you will want to use this convention on an 800 and lose (?) the free use of the extra joystick ports. Probably the 800 has to follow the same convention as the XL/XE machines: the extra memory appears in the address space 16K to 32K to avoid upsetting O/S functions and screen handling. However, David Young can tell you for sure, and in fact can probably help you with RAMdisk handlers if you buy his OMNIVIEW 80-column upgrade product. I think on the 800 you end up getting his OMNIMON resident monitor/debugger as a freebie if you buy OMNIVIEW. If so, this is one of those times when it is just plain foolish to resist temptation!!! CDY can be reached at (214) 235-2146 or by mail at 421 Hanbee, Richardson TX 75080. -John Sangster jhs@mitre-bedford.arpa
