[comp.sys.atari.8bit] REPOSTINGS // TURBOBASIC

RE: REPOSTINGS

Many local Atari fans without access to Usenet would like to see a
selection of the postings here. My inquiries have not discovered any claim on
these Usenet postings outside the implicit rights of the contributor. Some
Usenet contributors have added notices like: "not for circulation outside
Usenet"; of course any such wishes would be respected. Does anyone have any
comments about selective reposting to a local Atari club BBS?

RE:TURBOBASIC

TURBOBASIC XL is quite a nifty item. It's clearly a "professional"
product. The fact it has been placed in the public domain indicates there are
clever people out there with a real love for the machine.

Apparently there is also a compiler and runtime package also in the public
domain, that is fully compatible with all features of the language; therefore
it will also compile any ATARI basic program too. Anybody got any reviews of
the compiler? Better yet, can anyone post it to the net?

In response to the request for a reposting, I'll toss in this 'offer.'

When we set up the Club II BBS in Detroit, we went out of our way to
have the 'ultimate' ST selection. For quite a while, we managed, and
established an incredibly library that was the first of it's size. We
also set up an 8 bit section, which, all by it's lonesome (read 'by user
input unexpected') got pretty epic as well.

Well, it seems there are so many ST files that people stopped uploading
ST stuff. (They sure download though!) Since we, panicking, ran out and
picked up a 30 meg drive, we're now sitting on 16 some odd meg left
over. This could probably handle any 8 bit traffic you can throw at it.

My only consideration - we got countless uploads, but -quality- uploads
are what matter. Because we hadn't 'aimed' for an 8 bit base, it was
more important to us in the 8 bit section to keep worthwhile software.
(The ST sections simply have everything in existence.) My definition of
quality includes things like EXPRESS, TURBO BASIC, SpeedScript, etc.
Many 8 bit users as well are allergic to supplying worthwhile docs. Good
docs and support files also labelled something as 'worthwhile.'

Some of the things we went and removed in the 'great 8bit shakeout' were
paint files (.pic), AMS files, and mindless BASIC games. I think
everyone here however knows what's worth their time to call LD for.
That's the real criteria.

So, given an overwhelming capacity for storage and close contact with
the net, you may wish to archive net postingsof value there. If the
volume of posting is too large, not to worry. I have another 30 meg
drive I can plug in if necessary and I doubt there's 60 meg of PD 8 bit
software in the world.

P.S. It's under Fido, so you'll need to look in the right (F)ile and
(M)essage areas for 8 bit specific stuff. Also, if anyone's sitting on a
400 meg Vax or something that's obviously even more appropriate for a
general access archive.

I would be willing to post the compiler, runtime program, and docs
for Turbo Basic. Give me about 3 days to get things together. It
will be in HEXBIN format again.
