[comp.sys.atari.8bit] Chameleon and Hayes

lazear@MITRE-GATEWAY.ARPA.UUCP (02/12/87)

Help! I have a Ventel 1200-31 Hayes compatible model hooked
to my 800 (not XL) via an 850 interface. I can dial from the
terminal mode screen directly, by giving AT commands from the
keyboard. My problem is that the Chameleon dialing menu doesn't
seem to work properly. I can see something being sent to the modem
(and echoed back depnding on switch settings). But no further
interaction (no off-hook noises or LED) to denote progress.

Does anyone have this setup, or could you tell me the proper settings
of the Hayes modem (Either physical switches for echo, result codes, verbose
mode, etc) or for the Snn software switches to make this work?
Thanks in advance.

Dan,

I have hooked a terminal up in place of the modem, just to see what
Chameleon has sent towards the Hayes. It only sends a carriage return
and a capital A. Unless this is an old Hayes command set, I don't see
how this would ever work (the Hayes expects "AT" before all commands).

I may take Marshall Abrams suggestion and just use the native Ventel
mode, since this offers stored numbers, too, plus autodialing. That
might even be fewer keystrokes(!), but you lose the name and baud
rate features of Chameleon's phone directory.
