I own an Atari XM301 modem and am very disappointed with the documentation for it! I am trying to write a BBS program for my machine but I am getting stopped constantly by problems dealing with the modem. The technical reference notes may be informative to someone who has been programming with modems for some time but for a seasoned programmer who has never used a modem with anything other than applications software it is very difficult to understand. I dug up an article on the 1030 modem which helped quite a bit but I am still having problems. The major problems I am encountering right now are: 1) it doesn't want to send Atascii eol's; they are being translated to esc's. I have a feeling that this is the effect of having the high bit (bit 7) being set to 0 on input data. and 2) the suspend and resume commands don't seem to work (maybe -- or should I say probably -- I am doing something wrong). I tell the modem to go into suspend mode...read part of a file from the disk...try to resume modem operations and I get an error 136 - device not present or some such strange thing. It doesn't want to work for me for some reason. If there is someone out there who can set me off and running with a competent set of instructions and a good set of explanations for a layman please post some info - maybe someone else might like to know about it. Or send me email to euloth@dal.uucp (I think..I am a little new at this nationwide email service.) Thanks, in advance! Glenn Euloth
