[comp.sys.atari.8bit] Rana 1000 Disk Drive

tom@felix.UUCP (03/13/87)

Greetings,
I just purchased an Atari 800 with a Rana 1000 disk drive.
They have been unused and are in perfect condition (circa June, 1983).

The Rana manual says they the drive only supports single density with
it's firmware, but double density supporting firmware is coming. Did it?
It appears that Rana Systems is no longer in Chatsworth, Calif.
Does anyone know where they are or how I can get a copy of the firmware?
I assume the DOS 2.? I have doesn't support double density anyway.
What's the latest OS and where is a good place to get it?
Or am I a few years late?

Thanks,

I don't know if Rana ever came out with their firmware upgrade. Our
Rana drive proved to be more trouble than it was worth, and we dumped it.
I think Rana is now out of business.

I bought my Rana in Aug of 1983 and it supports double density 180Kbytes.
I use OSS DOSXL and it works fine. The original Xerox manual which came
with the drive said nothing about double density. Two months later a printed
manual explaining double density operation came in the mail.
