Well, there are several ways I know of to get Emacs running on VMS. One way is to run one of the standard Unix Emacs implementations under Eunice. To do this you must purchase Eunice and the Emacs implementation. On the other hand, the MIT Laboratory for Computer Science has implemented Emacs in NIL, a dialect of Maclisp developed here a few years ago. Since the Emacs is written in Lisp, it is very easily extensible. But the nice thing is that both of these are FREE! Contact George Carette for more information. His Arpanet address is GJC@MIT-MC, and USSnail might be able to reach him as: George Carette MIT Lab for Computer Science 545 Technology Square Cambridge, MA 02139 -- Barry Margolin ARPA: barmar@MIT-Multics UUCP: ..!genrad!mit-eddie!barmar
