I was unable to reach Rich!Jolnet, but thanks to him and others for their suggestions. Here's a recap for you Percom Floppy Drive owners out there. Late last year my Percom SSDD drive developed an intermittent thermal problem - after warming up a few minutes it would neither respond to the Atari nor initialize successfully. (No D-D-D-D-D-whirrr, just a feeble d-d-d-d-d.) Most of the suggestions I received were to replace and/or solder in the three power regulators on the back panel because of the lousy sockets. I finally got some time to poke around with my voltmeter and a scope. Two regulators had solid 5V outputs and the third had a solid 12V output. So I looked around for open input logic levels and reseated the socketed IC's on the Percom controller board. All of a sudden the drive started working again! (Some strange waveforms I had spotted still look the same - they have slow S-shaped rising edge transitions.) Moral of the story: reseat everything that is socketed before you give up and send the drive (or any other piece of equipment) off for maintenance. Thanks for the suggestions, those who responded. Case closed - for the present at least.... Dan
