[comp.sys.atari.8bit] Making a better ARC/ARCX

fireplace@cup.portal.com (03/24/88)

I think we all need a better version of ARC & ARCX on the Atari 8-bit. Ralph
Walden, the author of the versions we are stuck with, has basically disappeared
from the face of the earth. Does anyone out there have the time and resources
to create a slick, bug-free ARC & ARCX in Assembly, C, or ACTION??

You can't sing without a Pepsi... fireplace@cup.portal.com

I'm always up for a programming challenge, although my 6502 Assembly probably
isn't in the same league with many of you... If someone can send me the info
on the specific ARC format, i.e. the actual algorithms to be followed while
ARCing and unARCing a file, I'd be happy to muss around with it and post any
successes I may have, to the net... No guarantees, but I'd love to have the
ARC info to work with...

In article <2467@bsu-cs.UUCP>, cdchiesa@bsu-cs.UUCP expressed interest in
creating a better ARC/ARCX for the old Atari 8-bit series of computers.

I will be looking for detailed information on ARC -- I will find some,
hopefully. If anyone out there has access to any information about ARC,
PLEASE post it.

It's a negative integral power ratio... fireplace@cup.portal.com

I have seen the sources for the Atari ST version of ARC available on Atari's
own BBS system. It is however a LONG download, about a 350K file. The IBM
version is around the same length.
