Well, I have finally gotten ACE C and CC8 & have done some testing. The primes program provided with ACE C runs quite a bit faster. However, in doing my own programming, CC8 seems much more reliable. Several times I have tried compiling a perfectly good C program with ACE & it just freezes up on me. Since the screen is automatically turned off you can't see what is going on. CC8 almost always works correctly and you have the option whether or not you want to have the screen turned off. Note: my copy of ACE C might be bad. Has anyone else had these problems? The programming project I spoke of earlier was a Plato terminal emulator. I don't know about anywhere else (except UIll Urbana), but Plato is used a lot here at the U of D. Atari makes an emulator cart., but it only works with the 850 & it costs money. I intend to change their mistakes. For reasons of speed, I may have to write parts of it in assembly language (probably LADS, since that's what I have) for reasons of speed, but most of it will be in C. Since CC8 is more reliable, I plan to use it most of the time. I will probably make it a Shareware deal (guilt-trips & all that) but I haven't decided yet. If anyone is interested in this idea, let me know. I will be interested to hear your ideas & I may need some beta-testers in a couple months.
