I believe that The Print Tool, by Marshall Abrams, will do most or all of
what you want. The author has gone to some trouble to provide support for
making up slides for presentations. The program is in the ANTIC Catalog.
The author is on the net (abrams@mitre.arpa) and could probably tell you
what capabilities the program has for your purpose.

Incidentally, The Print Tool is essentially "RUNOFF", the program DEC PDP-11
users know and love as a powerful text formatter for producing reports.
It does automatic decimal section numbering, automatic compilation of index
and table of contents, etc. Producing TV slides is just a tiny fraction of
its capabilities.
