Is there any kinf of patch out there to get the US Doubler chips to do warp speed reading and writing with a dos other than Sparta DOS ? I am using mydos 4.2B. This works fine for double density, but thats all I can get. Any ideas?? Bitnet: Phr140@urimvs

The problem is that US doubler works by modifying the serial I/O (SIO) port speed. When this happens in Sparta, the normal serial port routines are swapped with a modified set which operate at the faster speed. The speed index is obtained by querying the drive with a special disk operation code. If you are lucky, someone may have made a patch which works with other DOS's which handle the US doubler's ultra-speed. The next question is why you aren't using SpartaDOS? I've used all types of DOSs, but Sparta seems to be the best one available. I guess that too is a matter of opinion, but I think that you might be better just switching to Sparta. +------------------------------------+----------------------------------------+ | Gil Kloepfer, Jr. | Net-Address: | | ICUS Computer Group, Systems Dvlp. | {boulder,ihnp4,talcott}!icus!limbic!gil| | P.O.
