[comp.sys.atari.8bit] Here Comes Kermit65 and the Means to Get It Working!

cfchiesa@bsu-cs.UUCP (Christopher Chiesa) (10/21/88)

Hello, all!

Finally, the last obstacle to my posting Kermit65 has been removed; to
wit, I verified that I *CAN* perform Kermit file-transfers while using the
SX212 modem connected directly to SIO. (In fact, I'm using that configuration
with Kermit65 to TYPE this!)

In the next few minutes I will queue for posting the following files:

   - UUDECODE.BAS -- probably John Sangster's version; I think I saw it go
by a few days ago, but will send it again "for completeness." ASCII
capturable BASIC listing; capture it, and use the ENTER command to
pull it in and execute it under Atari BASIC. It will let you UUDECODE
       the file which follows;

   - YAU.UUE -- UUencoded YAU.COM (Yet Another UUdecoder) binary; you'll
want/need this to uudecode what follows

   - YAUE.UUE -- just for completeness; this is the Yet Another UUEncoder
which lets you encode YOUR stuff for transmission.

   - KERMITNR.UUE -- UUencoded binary of John Dunning's terrific Kermit65
program, with *NO* R: handler -- lets you "add in" whichever handler
you need for your configuration, from those which follow. This was
ported from the C64, and I just happen to have finally SEEN the original
version for the first time; my professional (?) opinion is that John
has IMPROVED on the original. Thanks John!

   - KERMIT.UUE -- UUencoded binary of Kermit65 *WITH* the "standard" Atari
R: handler, the one used with the Atari 850 Interface Module. Load-
'n'-Go right from this file, if you have an 850 or compatible hardware.

   - KERMITSX.UUE -- a homebrewed combination of KERMITNR.COM and the
RVERT212.BIN R: handler that lets you use the SX212 modem connected
directly to the SIO bus. Would not have posted this -- would have
let you all "roll your own" from KERMIT.COM and RVERT212.BIN, below,
'cept we've had some awkward munging here lately and I want to make
sure you get something that works. Oh yeah, this is UUencoded too.

   - RVERT212.UUE -- UUencoded binary of the RVERT212.BIN R: handler that
lets you use the SX212 modem as though it were the Atari 850 Interface
Module. Seems to support all XIO operations allowed for the 850,
either in actuality or with stubs. Included independently for those
who'd like to use it in other contexts (should work with ANY software
that looks for the R: device, providing said software doesn't overwrite
       RVERT212 with its OWN handler).

   - SMARTT.UUE -- UUencoded binary of the "SMART T:" handler that lets your
XM301 look like the standard R: device -- as far as I know! I may
just possibly be mis-describing this, as I have never had occasion to
       use it myself.

   - KERMIT.DOC -- ASCII text of the documentation for Kermit65 -- bet you
almost thought I forgot it?! I almost DID...

Each of these postings-to-come will contain a brief description of the file
contained, including the byte-count and checksum that you should get upon
UUdecoding it.

I would like to request that if you know any of the following people, you
make sure they know of these postings' appearance, as these individuals asked
me to E-mail them everything, which I have NOT done in preference to just
posting for everyone.

Keep your eyes open, and let me know if you miss a piece!
