I got a copy of HEXBIN from Dan Fleysher and have now successfully decoded Turbo BASIC. It appears to work as advertised! John McLaughlin, I have lost your address, so please e-mail it to me again and I will mail you a disk containing the binary. Everybody else, if you missed Turbo-BASIC and/or don't have HEXBIN to decode it with, let me know and I will either e-mail or post to the net one or both programs. -John Sangster jhs@mitre-bedford.arpa

Well, I just spent the afternoon trying to get the Turbo Basic Compiler and Runtime package to work, but with no luck at all. The posted UUDECODE program doesn't seem to work for me- all I end up with is an "empty" output file. I've checked it over several times and I give up. Anybody have any similar problems? Any suggestions as to what went wrong? Or better yet, is anybody who has a working copy willing to copy it for me if I mail you the disks? (I have a working copy of TurboBasic from last month, so I'd *really* like to get the compiler and runtime package for it.) Thanks for any help you may offer. -Ray Ray Wilmott wilmott@topaz.rutgers.edu

Has ANYBODY gotten the Atari uudecode to work? I may have to post another copy if it didn't get uploaded correctly. I am sorry for any inconvenience if I posted a bad file. -John S.

Hi, I would like to know if there in U.S. the TURBO BASIC interpreter is known. TURBO BASIC is a very fast PD interpreter, a Compiler is also going away with it. The author of this program (written in 1986) is Frank Ostrowski, the same person who wrote GfA Basic !!! If TURBO BASIC is known is the U.S., I wonder why nobody uses it (never seen a TB-source here) ... -- alderaan OP RKOpdp (RSTS/E) FB Mathematik/Informatik RKO Berlin Dieffenbachstrasze 60-61 1000 Berlin 61

I have used TURBO BASIC on and off for some time, mostly for its speed. I cannot use its added features, as I contribute stuff to mags, local user group, etc. and lots of them don't like the compatibility problems. If a feature is needed, such as fast binary I/O, I will add the little M/L routine it takes to implement it. Also, the way it handles I/O is slightly different in some cases, so I must always check anything I do to make sure it works in the other environment. The last problem is that it won't work with SpartaDOS - both use RAM under the ROM. I use SpartaDOS because it is the only other OS I have that supports the XF551 DSDD mode, plus handles subdirectories. As for the compiler - I have never been able to get anything to compile and run right, large program OR small. The last thing I tried was the Mandelbrot program I posted a little while ago. Sometimes I get an error message, such as DIM error, others just bad results and once the system hung. What gives? -Stan

There are 2 reasons why I don't use Turbo Basic.. a) I use Basic Xe when I must use Basic. b) I *always* use SpartaDOS. Turbo Basic doesn't work with SpartaDOS. The new SpartaDOS X-Cart. will work with Turbo Basic though, so whenever it arrives, perhaps I will start using Turbo Basic.
