It's a h*** of a lot easier than building one, unless you are a h/w masochist. (Or so I gather, I don't hack on h/w.) The new XF551 Atari drive would be a good choice. Since you have an IBM / other computer background (it seems), you should understand "true" double-sided floppy drives. (Some of us Atarians have gotten so used to flipping floppies, we flipped out when we saw a drive that deals with the 2nd side of a non- flipped floppy! [Try saying that fast, over and over again :-]) But not me, I have Percoms, and I never got into punching 2nd-side index holes...
