For those of who you have an SIO direct-connect modem (ala XM-301 or SX-212) and a SIO-centronics parallel printer cable, you know that you can't use your printer and modem at the same time. It was always a real pain not being able to dump a screen to the printer while on-line, but it really got annoying everytime I wanted to print a listing or a text file (had to manually swap the cables around, etc). I found a little thing in Best Electronics' latest catalog that got around all of that! It is Digital Device's "Ape Link" kit. It gives you up to three extra SIO ports on your Atari! If you buy it in kit form (instead of each individual part -- there is no fully assembled version), then you'll have a little soldering to do (not much). The procedure is simple and straight- forward. I've got it configured as three SIO ports, but I can easily add another SIO in, so I can use all three ports for SIO for perireprials ( (as of now, one of the ports connects the Ape Link to the daisy chain). The bottom line is this: It's easy and awesome. If you are in the same boat as I was, then I hearitly recommend it. Best Electronics was very helpful too. Good place to order from....
