Actually, connecting a hard disk to a 1200xl should be possible if you know a bit about hardware. 'All' you have to do is find all of the signals that are present on the expansion bus of a 130xe, and bring them out of the computer. the signals are all listed in 'Mapping the Atari (revised edition).' I'm not sure if all of the signals are generated by the 1200xl, some may have to be derived, but if I remember right, most of the extra lines you will need are there (the high order address lines, I can't remember what else they had). Even if this can be done (I don't have a schematic of the 1200, so I can't say for sure) it will not be cheap.. Incidently, if anyone out there has a copy of a 1200xl schematic, I would be interested in getting a copy. I would be willing to pay for one.. Ray C Bitnet: Biw109@urimvs

Given the price of hard drive and related items, it would only be a minor perturbation to replace the 1200xl with an 800xl or a 130xe.
