[comp.sys.atari.8bit] SXmodem amd Kermit 65

scott@cs.odu.edu (01/14/89)

There is a version of Kermit65 for the sxmodem, right?
Does it work?

I do not have a sxmodem but in my general area a few people who have a
sxmodem have tried kermit 65 and have NOT gotten it to work.

I FTPed it from stanford... MY rverter and 850 version worked...
the sx version didnt.

These people have also downloaded kermit 65 from Genie and this ALSO
doesnt work.. that leads me to believe it is THEIR problem.

typical setup:
sxmodem
kermit65
SPARTADOS 3.2
atari 130xe

Could sparta be the cause of all this?

PLEASE SEND ME MAIL DIRECTLY.... I DO NOT READ THIS NEWS GROUP ALL THAT OFTEN!

thank you.

Good news! I have personally used Kermit65 with the SX212 modem connected
in "direct SIO port" mode, if that's what you're asking about... I don't
know the name of the particular handler I use, but the filename I've known
it by is "RVERT212.BIN". You need to use the version of Kermit65 that does
NOT contain the prepended "standard Atari R: handler," then either load
RVERT212.BIN first and THEN load Kermit65, OR copy RVERT212 and then copy/
append Kermit65 onto it to get a load-and-go SX212-direct-connect version.

I have it around here somewhere, if you can't find it out there in an
archive, let me know and I'll mail it OR post if there is enough interest.
I've posted Kermit65 and all of the handlers I have (standard R: device,
SmartT: for XM301 etc., and RVERT212) several times in the past, but it
seems there are new people looking for it all the time. Gee, I wish I'd
been the one to port it, I could be making a business of this... hehe...
