Hello! I have tried to post this once before. I believe it was destroyed.
I am looking for information on constructing a battery-powered, portable
130 XE. The main problems I face are the power input and the Video output.
It is possible that I will be able to use it will emplaced video screens,
therefore that part is not as essential as the battery power.

I would like to be able to use a set of 9 volt, C, or D batteries
(preferably 9 volt), to power a 130XE computer. Any plans or (preferably)
schematics for such a device would be, to say the least, greatly appreciated.

Internal power supplies would be best.

On the subject of video output, any form of output to a low-power LCD
screen (such as used in the Toshiba 1100 and other, similiar Laptop
machines) would be wonderful!

Thank you for any help you can give.

Gook luck. Your gonna need it. The problem is that the 6502 CPU in the Atari
is made in NMOS technology. NMOS is not the power miser that CMOS is. I don't
know this for sure, but I suspect that all of the major chips in the 130XE use
NMOS. I do know that the power supply for the XL and XE computers is rated at
5 volts, 1.5 amps. Small batteries aren't made for such a high current draw.

A 9 volt battery definately will not suffice. When my power supply blew
~2 years ago, I went to Radio Shack and bought a 6V lantern battery, and hooked
it up to the power connector directly. This only gave me about 5 hours total
usage before it started dying. As it died, the voltage dropped, and I had to
constantly adjust the color trim pot to keep the background color blue.
So, if you want battery power, you will need 2 things:
1) A BIG battery. It should have a larger Amp-hour capacity than the lantern
   battery I used.
2) A voltage regulator, unless you don't mind constantly adjusting your color
trim pot as the voltage drops. :-)

Unfortunately, a battery powered Atari is not a reality.

Again, this is not meant to be. The GTIA chip only puts out NTSC video
(in the USA), and I don't think there are any NTSC compatable LCD screens
readily available. If anyone knows of any, please let me know.
