[comp.sys.atari.8bit] Atari "Adventure"

wilmott@topaz.rutgers.edu (Ray Wilmott) (03/19/89)

---------------------

I was also a BIG fan of the old Atari VCS/2600 Adventure cart
(still am I guess...dug it out a few months ago and found that
I STILL love it). Found the "secrets" on my own (secret dot,
'created by' message room, how to enter the 'game select' screen
, etc). So can *ANYONE* out there confirm or deny the rumoured
"hidden purple dragon and wizard" secret???????????????????????
Also, does anyone know if a similar game was ever produced (PD
or commercial) for the Atari 8-bit computers, and if so where I
might find a copy????????? Thanx.

The 'game select' screen? How do you do that? I haven't heard
of that fun little room.
Also, I would like to put out a thought for most programmers.
Has anyone else realized that Atari has only made ONE videogame cartridge
for the 2600 that has a fatal bug in it. Considering the amount of
software revisions and bug fixes that I see for computers (MACs, SUNs, ...),
I find that to be a very good record. Yes, the software was smaller and
easier (more fun) to test, But it still means something!!
Oh, for those who don't know which cartridge, try Warlords in 3 player
mode. It will occasionally not give the ball back to continue after a point
is scored.

I don't think a version of Adventure was ever put out on the 8-bit, but
there was an interesting game called Castle Hexagon that I enjoyed quite
a bit. It entailed going through a castle, picking up objects and
putting them in their proper rooms. Although I've looked almost
everywheres, I really can't seem to find a copy of it. It was a PD
game.

I'm also a VCS freak, but never played Adventure. Maybe I should look
around for it.

Ray,

Can you give us some more information about the "game select
screen" you mentioned? I've found the secret room with the magic dot,
but I've never heard of the game select screen before I saw it mentioned
here on the net..

	Thanks,

There was a game for the 8-bit VERY MUCH like the adventure VCS
cartridge-- "The Holy Grail" (published by the (late) APX; Atari's "home-grown"
division). THG had _many_ rooms to explore, "secret" rooms and passages, and
was a kick for us Monty Python fanatics...
However, finding it (of course) will probably be difficult...
