Sometime last week, 'alaa@pedsga' posted the following request for information: > > I need some maths/educational software for my son's Atari XE, > does anyone know of mail order magazines/catlogues that carry this stuff. > I also need a backpup storage device. What do I need to connect a cassette > player to this system, and would any cassete player do or would I need a > special one? As so often happens, the E-mail I tried to send in response BOUNCED -- some system out there can't find "pedsga" and MY system doesn't turn it up on a 'findhost' command so I can't try any alternate mail paths... I don't even have a copy of the original posting and don't know the original poster's real name. I do hope he/she is reading this... the rest of you, hit 'n' now; 'alaa', whomever you are, READ ON please! ----- MY ORIGINAL REPLY, FROM 5/19: I don't know of a catalogue, per se, but you can try looking in the back of nearly any issue of "ANTIC" magazine -- which should be easily found on the rack nearly anywhere with a decent selection of magazines. (Try college book- store, Waldenbooks or B.Dalton bookstores; heck, around here, I get 'em at the GROCERY or DRUG store.) As for math/educational software, HOW OLD is your son? I recently bought a "package deal" Atari system that came with a lot of cartridge software that I am NEVER, EVER going to use... if your son is in the first or second grade, (my opinion; the labels/instructions may be more specific) perhaps you might be interested in one or more of these, and we could work something out. I'd like to get about $10 per cartridge but that's a BARGAIN compared to anywhere else... Of course, these games are pretty unsophisticated and a bit "dumb" in my opinion, but then, I'm not a first-grade child either... ;-) Lastly, the "Atari 1010 Program Recorder" is Atari's own cassette drive unit. You could probably find this item listed, as is true with nearly everything available for the Atari, in the back of ANTIC... It is a "newer" model than the older "Atari 410 Program Recorder." I have a 410 myself, and could probably be convinced to part with it for about $20 as I never use it. Send me e-mail about this -- but NOT to THIS username (this machine is going to be down sometime in the next few days, and is not all that reliable to begin with). Send instead to Chris_F_Chiesa@cup.portal.com That's much easier for me to receive and answer. Chris Chiesa -- UUCP: <backbones>!{iuvax,pur-ee,uunet}!bsu-cs!cfchiesa cfchiesa@bsu-cs.UUCP
