Before I get into the details, let me list the system I'm using: 800XL with Claus Buccholz 256K ramdisk, Atari DOS 2 (modified so the duplicate disk command copies the boot sectors), Indus GT floppy, Atari 1030 modem. First, I have some questions about YAU.COM. I have downloaded the Kermit 65 files that were posted a while ago with Bobterm 1.10 and Xmodem. I have noticed that this results in extra characters after the "end" statement. When I use YAU.COM to uudecode the resulting file, the byte counts are too high. This didn't really bother me but none of the kermit programs worked (KERMITNR.COM, KERMIT.COM, or KERMITSX.COM). If I use the basic uudecode, YAU.BAS, the files are smaller (YAU.BAS does not display a byte count or checksum) and KERMIT.COM runs. I can use YAUE.COM and YAU.COM to uuencode and uudecode these files after uudecoding them with YAU.BAS and the byte counts are OK. The checksums don't match but tha's probably because I changed the end-of-line character from a decimal 10 (line feed) to a decimal 155 (Atari EOL). I tried uudecoding the files before downloading them but that didn't work. Has anyone else seen these problems with YAU.COM? Second, I have some questions about Kermit 65. After using the above procedure, I have gotten KERMIT.COM to run. It doesn't work with my 1030 modem, but it does give me a command prompt and do something. I have tried various R: handlers for the 1030 and run KERMITNR.COM with no luck. I have tried using SMARTT.COM, XM.COM (from Bobterm 1.10 which works with the 1030), and the R: handler that came with the modem. I have renamed the appropriate handler to AUTORUN.SYS and rebooted the system. Then I binary loaded KERMITNR.COM and the system hangs after loading it. No prompts or error messages, nothing. Is anyone else using Kermit 65 with the 1030 modem? If so, how did you get it running? Don Novy Hewlett-Packard den@hpfitst2.hp.com
