[comp.sys.atari.8bit] Broken 1050

AMONSON@IDCSVAX.BITNET (07/04/89)

Charles,

Sorry I guess I have to post, my mail keeps bouncing back. My drive
mechanism is wearing. its not the SIO cable (I've had that problem also), no
matter how much tweaking of the cable I do it doesn't work. Only a rap on top
of the drive works. It also makes a louder than usual (HaHaHa) sound when
moving track to track. I have been considering a 551 for about 6 mo. and this
problem only appeared about two mo. ago, so I guess I will get the 551 use the
1050 as a second drive until it breathes its last breath. Thanks anyway.

                                        Paul Amonson

I recently acquired an 800XL, 1050 disk driver, and several carts,
including MAC/65, for almost nothing at a local pawn shop. Everything
works except the disk drive which will not write to diskette. Have
any of you every had this problem? Also, I need information on how
and where to obtain the following items:

Technical or service documentation for 800XL and (especially) 1050.
   Documentation on writing device drivers.
   User documentation for MAC/65.
Replacement parts and 3rd party products.
A serial and parallel port card.
An 80 column display adapter that will drive a TTL monitor.
   A c compiler.

For the serial and parallel port hardware, I am primarily interested
in either a design that attaches to the parallel bus connector on the
800XL or a description of the signals on that connector. With the
signals and pin out, I can build a serial and parallel port card and
(maybe!) write drivers for it myself.

PLEASE reply by email. Thanks in advance for all your help.
