I don't know if this is the proper place to ask, but here goes : I own an Atari 800 computer with a 1050 disk drive. I have, however no way of connecting this to any network, so I need a program to write Atari DOS- format diskettes from an IBM PC. I found just such a program at terminator.cc.umich.edu, "atario.arc", but I have not been able to un-arc it. Do you know what program I must use to un-arc that file, or do you know of anyplace I can get an un-arc'ed version ? Thanks in advance, I hope I'm not violating any rules of etiquette. I too would like a program that would write Atari formatted diskettes from an IBM PC. Please send me some messages about how. My Atari has no access to the net, only the computers up at the university. "Atario.arc" is a PC archive so you should use something like PKUNPAK on your pc to extract all the files (make sure you ftp the archive in binary mode). If anyone has problems un-arcing the archive I can e-mail the un-archived files. However, as far as I know (i.e. last time I looked at it), "atario" only allows a PC to read 8-bit Atari double-density disks, and NOT write to them (from pc). This is probably not what most people want, i.e. it allows you to upload atari files to a PC (and then to a net), but not download from one to your atari. The programs written in Pascal thought if some disc wizard feels up to adding a PC -> Atari mode. I hope there IS a PC -> Atari utility... --Chris

Hmmm... I don't know what program it is about which Chris (somebody; Portal ditches the headers when I "add a followup article") says > However, as far as I know (i.e. last time I looked at it), "atario" > only allows a PC to read 8-bit Atari double-density disks, and NOT > write to them (from pc). ... but I have a beast here somewhere which runs on the IBM PC, using the lower-density of the two PC disk formats, which can and does READ and WRITE Atari 8-bit double-density MYDOS disk files, which can then be read on a US-Doubler-equipped 1050 and maybe other drives too for all I know. It came off this Net at some time in the past, but if y'all want it I can surely post it. Ask and ye shall receive... Chris Chiesa Chris_F_Chiesa@cup.portal.com
