I'm looking for any kind of a UUCP implementation that runs on an Atari 8-bit computer (e.g., 800XL). I'd like to be able to do mail, but just being able to transfer files would be a good start. I would also prefer an implementation in Action! or BASIC, but once again I'll take whatever I can get. Please hold the "me-too" requests. I'll post a summary of responses in a week. :: Jeff Makey Department of Tautological Pleonasms and Superfluous Redundancies Department Disclaimer: Logicon doesn't even know we're running news. Well, I got a total of 3 responses to my request for UUCP for the 8-bit: (1) A pointer to an implementation for the Atari ST, but which would probably be difficult to port to an 8-bit. (2) Someone said that UUCP wouldn't fit on an 8-bit and that I should transfer files using kermit. [I have kermit, but that won't help me send e-mail.] (3) A suggestion that I might try porting UUPC, but it would be difficult. So, the answer seems to be that UUCP does not currently exist for the 8-bit (quit pretending to be surprised!). If I get sufficiently motivated, I just might write my own program that will let me exchange mail via UUCP. I have a copy of John Gilmore's freeware "uuslave" program which (assuming it really works) will tell me how to do the protocol. It doesn't look that complicated. Don't hold your breath waiting for me to do this, however. I might decide that it's easier to buy a '386 box. :: Jeff Makey Department of Tautological Pleonasms and Superfluous Redundancies Department Disclaimer: Logicon doesn't even know we're running news.
