Does anyone know if the 8-bit software archive at what used to be called Terminator.cc.umich.edu can be accessed in any way other than FTP'ing? My site doesn't support FTP access, and I'd like to get access to the software archive. As well, does anyone out there subscribe to Compuserve? How much info is there regarding the 8-bit machines? -Roy Wood.

Roy Wood asks about Atari 8-bit support on CompuServe... Activity in the Atari8 Forum is quite good... Bob Puff, author of BobTerm and SuperARC among other well known programs, is a Sysop there, and is always available to answer questions. If you're interested in APAC or (GIF) graphics, J.D. Potter is there too.. Every Sunday night, there's an online conference in the Atari 8-bit forum where you can ask about anything you're interested in, and of course, there are hundreds of programs you can download.. I can't find it right here, but there's an 800 number you can call to get a free signup package that includes some free online time so you can give it a try for no cost.. if anyone's interested, I'll look it up.. --- While on the topic of how much 8-bit support there is on CompuServe, I'd like to ask how do GEnie and CompuServe compare in the area of 8-bit messages and files - which one has more support? -Ray

Okay, so I was told that I can get everything from the fileserver at atari.archive, but I'm having trouble. All my mail to bart@terminator.cc.umich.edu is returned, as is any mail to bart at the atari archive sitename. Does anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong? I lost the address of the person who was kind enough to put me onto bart to start with, otherwise I'd ask him.... Thanks for any help, Roy.

First of all, your system is not formatting messages in any reasonable fashion -- please ask your system administrator how to ensure that line lengths are < 80. Second, you're using the wrong address. The following was recently posted to comp.sys.atari.st. Welcome to atari.archive.umich.edu This is the first monthly posting from the umich atari posse. We hope it will answer some of those nagging questions that always seem to pop up from time to time. If you have any additional suggestions, please mail them to me, at weiner@atari.archive.umich.edu. 1: How do I use BART? Bart (Brode's Archive Retrival Thang) is our mail server. You can get his help file simply by asking for it. Mail atari@atari.archive.umich.edu, and type the word help in the body of the message. Further questions about BART can be mailed to jon@atari.archive.umich.edu, NOT me. -- Steve Yelvington up at the lake in Minnesota The easy way: steve@thelake.mn.org The hard way: {plains,rutgers,apple,cray}!umn-cs!thelake!steve
