[comp.sys.atari.8bit] Question on Atari power supply

nin15b0b@merrimack.edu (David E. Sheafer, Class of 1989) (12/28/90)

    I have a power supply for a 1050 that isn't supplying any power. I've
tested it on a couple of disk drives and know that the power supply is the
culprit. Is there any easy way I can fix this myself

                           thanks

Don't know for absolute certain on the "1050 power supply," per se, but if
it is like all preceding Atari power supplies there is a fuse inside the
"black box" that is USUALLY the cause of death. This can be fixed yourself
IF you can crack (literally) the case open; Atari made no provision for
field replacement of this fuse, so the only way to get the case open is to
literally squeeze it til it pops. A large workbench-type vise or clamp
should be just about perfect for the job; my Dad for instance has one of
those big wooden carpenters' clamps, and you just pop the power supply in
there and screw down til it gives.

One thing you should do before and in addition to replacing that fuse (if
it does in fact turn out to be the problem) is finding out why it blew and
correcting the overall problem. Otherwise it's just going to blow again.
