[comp.sys.atari.8bit] 8 bit floppys

glens@natinst.com (Glen Sescila) (05/30/91)

	Hello,
I was wondering if there is an IBM program or something that would
allow me to read and write 8-bit Atari formatted floppys on a PC.
					Thanks!

My opinions do not necessarily reflect those of my employer and probably are
exact opposites.

Yes. The program ATARIO for the IBM-PC will allow the PC to read/write
Atari DOUBLE DENSITY floppies. Caveats:

* Only works with "low density" (i.e. "360K") IBM drives.

* Only reads/writes DOUBLE DENSITY (i.e. "US Doubler" or other "true
  double density") Atari disks

* Has some quirks/bugs which have not (to my knowledge) been quantified.

Perks:

* Source code is available: application is in C, Atari-format driver is
  in assembler

* Works on PC and at least the Tandy 1000SL "clone"; probably on anything.

Not sure where you can GET this program, other than rousing me (very
difficult most of the time) to UUencode and ship MY copies of all this.
