[comp.sys.m68k] OOL language on ST - use Clascal

klt@arinc0.ARPA (Kermit Tensmeyer) (12/09/87)

(Note that this is cross-posted to the groups to whom this problem might
 have relevance.)

I did some checking. So far as I know there are no PD cfront for C++
and no other C++ compliers for the Atari_ST. Objective C has also
_not_ been ported to Atari_ST, more the pity. So to find a good
environment to develope software with for the ST is tough.
I could use C or M2 but much of the development of good interface
software would be made easier by a good OOL.

I got hooked on using an OOL when I developed a project for
the Lisa 2/10 using the Workshop and the Clascal Toolbox. If only I
could port Clascal to the ST......

To do that, (is that legal, hmm, what is the current and future
status of Clascal in light of Object Pascal?) I would need to do
several things. First I'd need a USCD P-system on the ST. [Fine,
the USCD Pecan system is avaliable.] Would a 68000 based
USCD P-system be compatable with a different 68000 based P-system?
Can I take a Complier from the P-system (Workshop) and use on
another P-system? Will it (the complier) find and use the
Librarian to locate it's unit's to complete the compilation?
Are there other incompatiablities I've forgotten about?

Next is the problem with Drive Formats. Does anyone know the format
of Lisa Workshop disk formats. The disk could be read by the same
drives that read Macintosh disk. I had the wonderful thought that
perhaps the Magic Sac Translator would be able to read the Lisa
Disks so I asked David Small about the situation. He though about
and said that HE didn't know. (Well if he doesn't know about this
situation then there not be anybody else who does know about
comparative disk formats.)

Summary: Is there a another good OOL for the ST? (stripped Smalltalk
	     doesn't count) I'd love to use Obj-C or oh-yea C++.

Is using Clascal on the ST legal?

What must be true for 68000 based USCD P-system object
	 modules to be run compatiable?

How Can I get the Run-Time executable from Lisa Workshop
disks to ST readable disk. I'm assuming that I have to
rebuild the Object module for ST use.

[[ Let's see if I could Clascal to Work under Beckmeyer's C-shell
I could get multi-tasking user-friendly shell for the ST. I could
get to develope Mac Software on another host. No I'm not talking
about Lisa's. hmmm- the more things change..

And then when I can afford a big hard disk.....
